Geert Koolen Scrum Master Prowareness Talent Program
Geert’s Journey. When professionals consider taking their careers in a new direction, they are often faced with a range of opportunities and challenges. This was also the case for Geert, who was already working as a Scrum Master on a marketing and sales team at Freo, a subsidiary of Rabobank. Driven by a desire to further develop himself and explore whether a role as a Scrum Master within IT teams would suit him, Geert enrolled in the Prowareness Talent Program. This is his journey.

When a colleague told me about the Prowareness Talent Program, I was faced with a crucial question: “Is a career in the IT sector right for me?”The Talent Program offered me the perfect opportunity to find out. Right from the start, I felt like I was in the right place. The work-study program helped me tremendously in my personal development and gave me insight into my own abilities.

What the Prowareness Talent Program has given me

The real challenge lay in building, shaping, and leading a team in this technical environment. I wondered: “Can I create a strong team spirit in the IT sector too?” Through my experiences in the program, I learned that this is certainly possible. It has boosted my self-confidence and shown me that I can be successful in the IT world.

Certification and weekly exchange of experiences

The certification you earn through the Prowareness Talent Program is already a huge advantage. But what really made the difference was the weekly exchange of experiences. I saw each week as an opportunity to brainstorm, discuss what was going well and what wasn’t, and learn from one another. We had lively, sometimes heated discussions, but that’s exactly what I value. Constantly reflecting with the group on our approaches and experiences within our teams was incredibly valuable. Building a network of Scrum Masters and sharing practical experiences every week—that was the biggest benefit for me.

Guidance from an Experienced Coach

In addition, Quirine’s guidance as a coach was indispensable. Her extensive experience meant she had a solution for almost every problem, which made it easier and faster for me to get help with challenges. Although you ultimately have to do it yourself, I felt supported by a strong team behind me, which gave me the confidence that I wasn’t in this alone.

Bouncing ideas off someone with practical experience who can steer you in the right direction, alongside people going through the same thing, creates a bond of trust and an environment where you can share openly. Scrum mastery is really all about experience. When you first join a team, you might do things by the book, but you learn quickly from practice. Those experiences form the basis for your next decisions. It’s not so much about the content you learn from a book, but about the real-world experience with people.

When in doubt, just do it!

My advice to anyone considering joining the Prowareness Talent Program but still hesitating is: when in doubt, just do it! It’s better to take the plunge and experience it for yourself than to regret not seizing the opportunity later. Especially if you want to become a Scrum Master and see yourself as someone who enjoys working with people, this program is an excellent starting point.
